Monday

Well, all the bits for my new computer are here, except for the box and the power supply.  You know - doesn't matter what nifty processor or motherboard you've got without the damn box.  :)  Hopefully it will be here tomorrow.

One of the ladies in my guild told me this weekend that I shouldn't look at it as spending $600 to play the game.  I should look at it as spending $600 to be able to spend more time with my husband.  Kat's post on my previous entry says almost the same thing.  So that's my story.  I bought the new computer so that Rick and I could play together and spend more time together.  Yeah, that's the ticket.

I've been sitting here waiting for my mom to call me to tell me my aunt is out of surgery.  She's having a fibroid tumor (non-malignant) removed from her abdomen.  While they're in there they are taking out her uterus and ovaries as well.  I feel bad for her.  She always wanted kids so much and was never able to get pregnant with her husband (pathetic waste of flesh that he was.) And although she has pretty much gone through menopause at this point, and pregnancy wasn't really going to happen for her, this still closes a door in a really final way.  It's got to be a little hard.  I do hope that this will help her to feel better physically.  The tumor was pretty big (I saw a pic of it when they scoped her earlier this year - saw inside bits of my aunt - ewwwwwww) and it's been pressing on her bladder.  So on top of the discomfort of things being pushed around in there, she's been peeing every 5 minutes too............  This should help.

I'm seeing a light at the end of the Baronial financial tunnel - we went and started the new signature card.  Once we get Kingdom to sign it and I get Anawyn trained I will be out of the reeve business.  I'm looking forward to it.  I'll still be here if Anawyn needs anything but I hope that, for a while at least, the Barony can be secure in the knowledge that the reports are where they need to be, when they need to be there - without me having to do them..................

And still the motivation to get my house in order is lacking.  Although I have started setting Baronial things in a little pile in the library as I come across them.  I hope Ian and Kelandra are prepared...............  We bought some shelves for the garage.  Rick put one set together this weekend.  Now I have to get out there and get them situated and start putting stuff on them.  Damn, one of my excuses gone.  I'll actually have to accomplish something now.  Sigh.

Ok - back to work.

Stupid addictions

I'm excited.  We ordered my new computer yesterday.  It should be in by Tuesday or so.  This will allow me to play WOW not just with my few friends I can catch online but with my husband as well.  Up til now we've only had one computer in the house that was capable of handling the game.  In case you're not aware, there are 2 (probably more) kinds of computer geeks out there.  There are the ones that have the latests, most uber-spiff piece of computer hardware available, the minute it's available on the open market (and sometimes before).  Then there are the ones who always seem to have whatever they've scrounged from other machines.  Don't get me wrong, we've always had good computers, just never the best.  Last year we bought a new computer - not top of the line but higher end than what we had.  We bought this computer so that Rick could play WOW.  Not any worse, I guess, than spending $200 on a gaming system, but still........

Then, what does he do?  He encourages me to play WOW too.  So then we start talking about getting another computer, just so he and I can play the game at the same time instead of in turns.  This on top of the 3 laptops (none of which have enough balls to play WOW on) and the assorted computer bits hanging around in storage..............  OK - so as much as I want it, I still find it a bit embarrasing.  I'm paying almost $600 just so I can play a game...............

Ah well.  I had thought it was going to be some time before we had the extra money to blow - we still have things we need to do to the house, for example........but I had forgotten that I was expecting a windfall.  I get money from my company for NOT using their insurance.  So June 1st I got a check.  Not enough by itself but we scraped a bit together (including Rick's jury duty check - thank you federal government) to make up the difference.  Now I just have to wait for him to get it set up and loaded with software.  Won't be happening Tuesday night since he'll be on an MC run but maybe by Wednesday night.  Then I just have to get a toon up high enough that I can join in with everyone else.  Cody and Rick say they'll help me power level.  We'll see how long it takes.

Castellan has come and gone.  I feel some sense of regret for stepping down but I know it was the right thing to do.  Now to get the rest of the reeve mess cleared up and get that turned over to our new reeve and I'll be free!!!  Yay!!!!!

Had my review last week from my new boss who's only been here a few months.  I was really nervous about it, since he hasn't been here long and really doesn't have too much of an idea what I do.  And honestly, I've done a couple of stupid things in the last 6 months.  Everyone makes mistakes now and then, I just seem to have made more than usual since he took over in December.  But he was very complimentary.  He's well pleased with how our little 3 person department is running and feels we're starting to build a good rapport.  I got a fairly good raise, too.  Nice to get pats on the head occasionally.

Speaking of work, should get back to it.

Pirate names

Your pirate name is:
Mad Ethel Rackham
Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!

OK - I don't usually do these but someone said the questions on this one were really funny so I had to go look.  And they were right.  The questions are hilarious...........

Busyness

Been a while since I posted anything.  Mother's Day was ok.  My sister and her kids came up from Texas and stayed the weekend.  We managed to keep it pretty cool until Sunday morning.  Course I spent most of Saturday at the banner painting class (Yay Gilyan!!!) so we really had no contact for most of that day.  I love her dearly but we are not friends, really.  And I get really frustrated with her kids.  Ah well, family.  My Mom came over and spent the night Sat night and Sunday my Grandmother and my Aunt and Rick's Mom and little brother came over and we grilled burgers.

After they all left I played a little WOW and then watched Rick play for a while.  He sat up until 2:30 Saturday night trying to get to 60th so he was all into seeing how much gold he would get for quests now.  Saving up for that epic mount!  At the rate I'm going I may never see 60.  Perhaps we can talk about using my insurance opt out check (my company actually pays me to not be on their insurance plan) to buy that second computer we've been talking about...............

Work this week has been hectic.  It's the end of our fiscal year so we're doing a lot of clean up........at the same time, the other person in my department is on vacation this week so I'm doing her work as well as mine.  She always saves her vacation until she HAS to use or lose it...........meanwhile I'm 40+ hours in the hole.  Course that's my own fault, I shouldn't have taken that week in December off to move............

Not a lot going on.  Gearing up for Castellan.  Ordered a bunch of cotton for more trim.  I think I'm going to inkle weave a bit of it but the rest will probably go to Ayla.  Gotta keep her busy this summer. :)  Also need to get packed for Eldern this weekend.  I told Britney she could come but we haven't heard from her so I guess it will just be me and Rick.  I'm going to have cake there on Saturday for his birthday.  He turns 40 on Monday.  So we'll be the same age for a couple of months..............

It's raining.

It's raining.  Yah rain!!!  So last weekend we went out to Dwen & Johann's for their srping fling.  I finally got to hear D'Alder and Kearn's band, The Tingles.  They're pretty good.  It was a nice weekend.  I ate way too much - kind of an all day grazing sort of thing.  But it was fun.  We went out Friday night so got to spend some quality time visiting with D&J.  We haven't really had much opportunity for that in a while.  They've curtailed their eventing quite a bit and that 2+ hour drive just does not make quick visits feasible.

Stopped in Stillwater on the way home to drop off a computer at my mom's and to get the silk to Ayla.  I was so tired that I fell asleep on the couch with Thorvald while Rick was installing software.  Couldn't even get out of the truck to say hi at Ayla's.  She called last night to report on the trim.  She's making such headway, I better get started on the garb to put it on.  I just hope she's not neglecting her studies to weave our trim!!!!!

Populace last Monday night.  Our next to last one as B&B.  I've enjoyed my time as Baroness but I'm almost obscenely eager for it to be over.   Terrible storms blew through while we were at pop - Ironically, being at the library probably saved the truck from some hail damage.  Rick's mom had baseball sized hail in her yard after the storm passed.  It wasn't quite that big by the time it made it to our house but it was big enough to cause over $3000 of damage to Thorvald's vehicle - and he lives about a mile from us.  There are some dings in our little car but none of the glass was affected so not too worried about it.

Work has been super hectic this week.  There are only 2 of us in my department so one when of us is out it's a little busy for the other.  The sweet, little, grandmotherly woman I work with still had over 2 weeks of vacation to use before the end of our fiscal year...........that would be May 31st.  Which means she's got another week off next month, too.  Can you feel the excitement.  :)

We're meeting Ian & Kelandra for dinner tonight (Yah Margaret's goulash!!!!).  I'm assuming they want to pick our brains about being B&B.  At least they will be getting some input.  Our unfortunate situation when we stepped up left us in the dark about a lot of things.  We managed but it could have been easier.

Anyway - that's about it for now.  It's nearly 5 and time to shut down.  It's still raining.  I love the rain.
